Artists turn to Baroque period for inspiration FINE ART & ANTIQUES ...

MANY ARTISTS AGREE that new artwork is often inspired by the work of artists of the past. Throughout history artists have looked to earlier periods for inspiration to create meaningful works of art that chronicle contemporary issues and society. Some contemporary artists are now looking to the Baroque to inform their new work.

The art historical period known as the Baroque lasted from about 1580 through the 17th century. Considered a Golden Age of artistic production in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, the historical period's major events include the Reformation (1517), the Council of Trent (1545-63), the Counter Reformation (1563) and the Peace of Westphalia (1648), all of which served to shape western history and, as a result, its fine art.

The Baroque was the period whnewen French King Louis XIV supervised the building of the Palace and gardens at Versailles and Italian master Gianlorenzo Bernini put the finishing touches on St.
