| Festival series brings in the spring
REDLANDS - The first weekend of the 2007 Redlands Festival Series of springtime events in and around Redlands opens with two big events on Saturday, April 7, and a museum exhibit on Saturday and Sunday, April 7 and 8. The Redlands Conservancy presents its second annual Emerald Jubilee, a real tour of Redlands' Emerald Necklace Gems, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7. This year's event, titled "Zippity Zanja," focuses on the historic Zanja with three stops along the centuries-old irrigation system that cuts across Redlands. "People can still see this amazing piece of history in its original form in several places," said Gayle Hall, member of the Redlands Conservancy Land Trust Program Cabinet. She added that the public will be able to connect to this historic site that has been the subject of so much current attention.
SAD 53 community goes all out to aid Pittsfield family after fire
PITTSFIELD — Helen McAllister stood in the doorway of her upstairs bedroom, drinking in the sight of the antique bureau, stylish bed linens, a new carpet on the floor and a sweet lamp on the bedside table. "It's like something out of a magazine," she said softly. "I am overwhelmed." Downstairs was a beehive of activity. Schoolteachers, administrators, neighbors and friends were unpacking and putting away dishes, glasses, linens, movies, cleaning supplies — everything a family would need. Families move every day, you say, so what's different about this one? On Friday, the three-generation, six-member McAllister-Roland family had nothing but the clothes on their backs after a fire destroyed their rural Pittsfield home last week. By Saturday afternoon, however, the family had four furnished bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, an office with a computer on the desk, a sunlit dining room, and a living room with a new television and comfy furniture.
Birkirkara beat Melita
Birkirkara Azzopardi Antiques continued where they had left off the previous week by beating Melita Wilkinson Sword 7-2 in their latest match from the Malta Table Tennis Association national league at the University Sports Hall. Birkirkara, who had the better of champions Banks ROL before their match against Melita, are now joint first on 31 points. However, Banks ROL, with a better set average in favour, will have a chance to seal the league title later on this month if they beat third-placed Melita in a decisive match for both teams. The Table Tennis Academy team is the only unbeaten side in all divisions. Division Two leaders Academy made it 11 wins from as many matches last week following yet another excellent performance on their way to beating HSBC 8-1.

Magazine Ideas: Ramp up the romance
If you've chosen a special something for a special someone for that special day in February, be sure to wrap it in a special package. The February issue of Country Home has some ideas: _Head for the thrift store to find a 45 record that suits your sentiments, anything from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles to "Go All the Way" by the Raspberries. Tape a photograph on the back of the record so it shows through the spindle hole. Tie this musical picture frame to the top of your gift. _Tie an antique key on the gift with velvet ribbon. It not only looks neat but also carries a message - something about unlocking your heart. _Repackage store-bought or homemade truffles and other candy in old film canisters. Glue interesting antique drawer knobs to the top for an added flourish.
