Antique found negative of red tide

San Jose, Antique (2 February) -- With reports of red tide occurrence in Sorsogon Bay and the government on top of the situation in containing it, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Provincial Director Rosemary G. Nacisvalencia said that Antique province is negative of red tide as of press time and no cause for alarm for Antiqueos.

Nacisvalencia explained that red tide likely occurs or thrives in polluted coastal waters usually appearing when there is a shift in weather conditions resulting to rise in temperature, which is conducive to growth of micro-organisms known as dinoflagellates making shellfish unsafe for human consumption.

In some parts of the country, four municipalities in the vicinity of Sorsogon Bay are now under a state of calamity. Latest reports show that nine persons have died while around 100 persons got ill because of red tide.

Inn owner finds niche offering comfort, comfort food

BURGIN - Dot Dunn was sitting in a chiropractor's office reading a newspaper five years ago when she saw her future in a story on the front page.

A feasibility study had determined that Herrington Lake -- a popular recreation spot -- would be a good location for a state park.

"I knew everything they were talking about, and I said, 'There's no lodging down there,'" Dunn recalled.

Her 40th birthday was approaching, and "I always said at the age of 40 I wanted to retire to ownership."

It took more than two years of searching and negotiating to secure the right property, but in March 2004, Dunn achieved her goal.

Within a few months of purchasing a house about three miles outside Burgin in rural Mercer County, Lakeview Point Bed and Breakfast was open for business.
