Ultrasound detects aortic aneurysms
"The societies for vascular surgery recommend that people over the age of 65 be screened, especially if there is a family history, and in general, if there is any prior history of smoking," vascular surgeon Dr. Boulous Toursarkissian said. As of Jan. 1, Medicare began offering free, one-time screenings for patients enrolling in the system. Medicare patients must sign up for the exam within six months of enrolling. It's a benefit 82-year-old Bud Storrs says people need to use. Several years ago, he went into the emergency room thinking he had kidney stones. He found out he had an aortic aneurysm, and had it repaired with a graft. That treatment may have added years to his life. .
Tying tradition / Hooked on Art to feature Franz Pott's legendary ...
Not everyone can tie Pott flies, which is exactly what Franz Pott had in mind when he patented the things in 1934.The Missoula fly manufacturer employed his skills as a wigmaker to develop 30 variations of his Mite pattern before he died in 1956 at the age of 77. Pott flies became, and remain, a part of Montana's fly-fishing tradition and still command a base of diehard fans. .

Campaign to save historic market
WINCHESTER campaigners fighting to save a historic market were hoping to make their voices heard before civic chiefs last week. Traders at the King's Walk Antiques and Crafts Market have gathered a petition with some 3,500 signatures opposing the building's demolition. The 19th century building is due to be demolished as part of the Silver Hill redevelopment. A group of traders and supporters attended the city council's Cabinet meeting in the Guildhall last Wednesday, but were disappointed to be told the subject wouldn't be discussed at the forum, but instead at a future planning meeting. One of protesters, Ann Whatley, said of the plan to demolish the market and replace it with new shops: "Winchester would lose a tremendous tourist attraction - we get people here from all over the world." .
