Winter can be a slow time for many farmers, but Saturday, the South Bend Farmer's Market was bustling.

Winter Festival has been going on all week.

The festival features the usual produce vendors, antique dealers, and arts and crafts makers.

Some regular attendees say Winter Festival is a way to keep a South Bend tradition going strong all year long.

"It gives us a chance to see good people and old friends," says Greg Leyes, Ginger Valley Vendor. "I've come to the market since I was five-years old so it's kind of nice for me to be here right now."

Produce growers tell us, despite the week's fun, they are counting down the days until spring.

In case you are wondering, spring is just 39 days away.

Take a stroll down memory lane

What it does: Offers antiques, collectible items and gifts. "It's a trip down memory lane," vendor spokeswoman Stella Camp said. Vendors exhibit and sell their merchandise in leased spaces or booths in a shopping mall of vintage collections. Furniture is a mix from Victorian to modern day. The inventory has toys, estate and costume jewelry, antiquated books, 1950s retro pieces, linens, novelty signs such as "Let Women Vote," beer brewer advertising, cast-iron tools and stained glass.

Employees: Manager, four employees and three sales associates

Company history: Keith Sharp founded Firehouse Antiques' "business concept" in October 2001 to assemble numerous vendors at one site, allowing "these people to be entrepreneurs." Camp represents dealers because she "wants them to do well.

Antique Car Stolen

BOISE - Boise Police are investigating several car thefts that happened this week, including the prized posession of an elderly man.

91-year-old Van Dors has been working to restore a 1940 mercury club convertable for the past 25 years, but police say someone pushed it out of his garage overnight Wednesday and stole it.

The antique car was not in working condition. Dors woke up Thursday morning to find it gone.

"I was suprised that anyone would even attempt something like that and to get away without us even hearing them," said Dors. "It was quite a shock."

In addition to the antique car, police say a motorcycle and a trailer were stolen in other parts of the city.

Investigators believe the three thefts may be related.

Suspect caught after chase

A chase by vehicle and foot ended at Davis Estates Apartments with the capture of one of two suspects Wednesday night.

Officer David Curley said he clocked a car driven by Tracy Lynn Marable, 28, Old Pencil Mill Road, at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone on Coney Island Road.

Marable allegedly sped up, ran a stop sign at the East Depot Street intersection and led officers to Anthony Lane and the apartment complex, where she and a passenger attempted to flee on foot after coming to a dead end in the parking lot.

Verbal orders to stop were allegedly ignored by Marable until she "appeared to run out of breath," Curley said. "I took her to the ground to be handcuffed."

The passenger, a man Marable told police she knew only as "Creep," ran behind one of the complex's buildings and disappeared.
