The Heat Is Off: With Legal Case Pending, Antiques Dealer Calls A ...

After sparking a media frenzy with his "mean-spirited" $1 million lawsuit, antiques dealer Karl Kemp is now exploring other options to keep the homeless away from his Madison Avenue storefront.

According to Wednesday's Daily News, Mr. Kemp has now cut off the hot air to a steam grate located out front, which seemed to be attracting the less-desirable foot traffic:

The once-toasty grate beneath Kemp's window - a mainstay for Greenlee and at least three other homeless people named in the lawsuit - had cooled to a near-freezing 38.9 degrees when the Daily News measured it yesterday.

"We put in new insulation, so now instead of all the hot air coming out in front, it goes out in the back," said a contractor from the East Meadow, L.I.-based construction company KMA Inc., who identified himself only as Kajus.

De Carlo photos are a favorite with collectors

Yvonne De Carlo, one of Hollywood's legendary beauty queens, died a few weeks ago at the age of 84. Like other talented actresses of her day, De Carlo left behind a variety of images collected by devotees of movie and TV memorabilia.

Younger fans mostly know De Carlo for her role as Lily Munster on the 1960s hit horror spoof series ``The Munsters.'' In most of her movies, however, De Carlo was cast as a sultry temptress or exotic dancer. The versatile Canadian-born star went against type when she was selected to play Sephora, the wife of Moses, in the 1956 Cecil B. DeMille epic ``The Ten Commandments.''

Fans rummage through antique shows and shops for movie stills, lobby cards and posters showcasing De Carlo. Movie magazines cost $10 to $40. A 1963 Munsters card game can bring in $100 or more, while a movie program featuring De Carlo and other actors in ``The Ten Commandments'' is worth $35.

North St. Paul / Cards of every kind

Fantasies. Diseases. Wars. Holidays. They're memorialized on postcards, and Jerry Peterson's passion is selling these garage-sale pieces of history. BY MATT PEIKEN Pioneer Press

If you were to rummage through your basement, clean, organize and price everything and cast the room with the bright white of fluorescent light, you might wind up with a replica of Jerry Peterson's store.

The eye candy at the Seventh Avenue Antique Mall in North St. Paul begins in the front display window, where a fuzzy gorilla reclines on a brocade chaise lounge, and extends inside to shelves of boxed-up Barbies, faded board games connected to "The Brady Bunch" and "All in the Family" and framed images of Jesus bearing prominent labels in felt pen identifying each as a "religious picture."

It's easy to overlook the dozens of blue binders and long white cardboard boxes that house the store's most distinctive contents.
